Birkenstock is famous for their supportive shoes, and now the brand has branched into supporting your skincare routine as well. The line of sustainably made and cruelty free products will feature twenty eight products with one main ingredient. Can you guess what it is? It’s something that Birkenstock have made central to their entire shoe line and their international image.
It’s cork. More specifically, it’s cork oak.
The line, named Birkenstock Natural Care, has five different categories, including anti-ageing and male skincare products. The CEO of Birkenstock, Oliver Reichert, commented on the new range in an interview with FFW.
“While we were doing our research regarding a healthy product concept in the skin care segment, we realised that scientists in the cosmetics industry had discovered the highly effective anti-ageing effect of suberin, a remarkable substance which is contained in cork oak extract,” said Mr Reichert.
He expanded on the brand’s reasons for entering the skincare industry by explaining that the move is an extension of the brand’s concern for foot health.
“In addition to healthy walking, standing, walking and lying, skin care has a considerable influence on well-being. The cosmetics industry offers a large number of products for this purpose. Unfortunately, many contain but chemical ingredients that can irritate the skin or even damage it. This has prompted us to think about a healthy product concept in this segment as well, ” CEO Reichert said.
The skincare line is made in Germany, and is set to be released in stores in the US and Asia sometime within the next year. We’re sure that the products will be as well-received and useful as their shoe counterparts.
