8 Celebrity Skincare Secrets You Need To Know

The secrets to a supernatural glow, flawless complexion and age-defying skin are surprisingly simple.

With new beauty routines breaking the Internet every day – from natural remedies like coconut oil and charcoal, to using haemorrhoid cream for those stubborn under-eye bags (who knew butt cream could supposedly fix fine lines and wrinkles), we’ve turned our gaze to celebrities to see what products they’re using and why.

After hours of trawling through social media, we present you with: 8 Celebrity Skincare Secrets You Need To Know.

Priyanka Chopra – ‘Ubtan’ Face Mask

If you’re all about a simple and au naturale skincare routine, Priyanka Chopra has you covered.

In a video series for Harper’s Bazaar, Little Black Book, Chopra reveals that her number one skincare secret is the traditional Indian face mask ‘Ubtan’.

Ubtan uses five simple ingredients to cleanse away dead skin cells, leaving your skin glowing and refreshed. And the best part? You can find all of these ingredients in your kitchen.

Chopra’s DIY Ubtan face mask:

  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour (her mother, Madhu, makes it clear it needs to be whole wheat to exfoliate the skin)
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Squeeze of lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon full fat yogurt
  • Enough rose water to create a paste

Simply mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl, apply to the face, leave for 15-20 minutes then gently rub off with a warm, damp cloth.  Cleanse face afterwards to remove any residue and voila!  Your skin will be glowing like Chopra’s in no time.

Our queen of effortless yet chic beauty, Gigi Hadid has revealed in a Vogue video that toothpaste is her top secret weapon for combatting pimples and spots.

She states “I put toothpaste on spots at night, and it dries [them] out”.

Although toothpaste is not specifically formulated for clearing away blemishes on your face, Hadid favours this no-frills approach over expensive beauty treatments. “I’ve just always wanted good products and I don’t think you have to pay a lot for that.”

Emma Chamberlain, the internets favourite self-confessed coffee addict, also knows a thing or two about skincare.

Having struggled with acne throughout high school and recently coming off Accutane, Chamberlain reveals her top skincare secrets in a recent Vogue video.

Key to her routine is listening to what her skin needs and not following a strict regimen, “I’m someone who follows my instinct (…) I’m just intuitive with the whole thing”.  One product she’s sworn by since high school, as recommended by her father, is Tea Tree Oil.

“Whenever I had a pimple in middle school, and I lived with my dad, he would tell me to put tea tree oil on it, because thats what he did.”

Simple enough right? Check out the tea tree oil Emma incorporates into her skincare regime:

Alicia Keys’ age-defying complexion has been the envy of beauty enthusiasts everywhere, trying to discover her secrets to youthful skin.

In 2016, she announced to the world that she was ditching make-up all together, opting to go bare-faced on the red carpet despite the flashing cameras, bright lights and scrutiny of critics.

In a world where it’s expected that celebrities don a full-face of makeup to head to the grocery store, Keys’ appearance was refreshing and real and a reminder that celebrities have imperfections just like everyone else.

In an interview with Elle UK, Keys’ revealed her skin wasn’t always glowing and smooth, “I mean, I know how it feels to have a face full of bumps and pimples. I lived through that in the public eye.”

So what is her secret? She reveals that a major change she made to clear her skin was eliminating dairy and drinking more water.

However, if you’re anything like us and cannot imagine a world where you have to live without cheese or ice cream, Keys’ also revealed some products she swears by to maintain her complexion.

The Epicuren Aloe Vera Calming Gel and Bulgaricum Probiotic Mask Powder are two products that are staples in her routine.  “Epicuren is one of my favourite brands,” Keys’ reveals.

Sometimes, she’ll use the two products together, mixing some of the mask powder in with the moisturiser, for the combined benefit of moisture and exfoliation.

Check out Keys’ favourite Epicuren products:

Australian icon, Cate Blanchett, understands the harsh effects of the Aussie sun and just how important it is to protect our skin; not only to prevent wrinkles and sun spots but also to protect against skin cancer.

The famous Aussie saying, ‘slip, slop, slap’ has never been truer, and in the world of celebrity skincare secrets, SPF seems to appear in almost every beauty regimen.

“The best piece of advice is to wear sunscreen and not go out in the harsh Australian sun. I was out for 15 minutes yesterday in the sun and it’s just so intense,” Blanchett said in an interview with Gritty Pretty.

To maintain her luminous, smooth complexion, Blanchett’s top product is an SPF from Neutrogena.  Make sure when searching for suncream that you look for SPF50, you want to maximise protection as much as possible!

Actress and Hollywood sweetheart Sandra Bullock has a slightly more unconventional beauty secret for reducing under eye circles and puffiness – haemorrhoid cream.

Yep! You read that right, Bullock previously admitted to using it to tighten her under-eye area and smooth out wrinkles.

Definitely a more experimental method in the beauty world, but perhaps a good alternative to botox?

We’re not entirely sure that it works, however if it has a stamp of approval from Sandra Bullock it might be worth the try. Might be wise to keep this one on the down low though…
