Have you ever heard the saying, you are what you eat? The phrase implies that food consumed will be reflected by your outer appearance. If your skin is breaking out in specific areas, it may be trying to tell you something. Perhaps it’s time to listen up?
Dark Circles Under Eyes
Dark circles can indicate lack of sleep, extreme stress or an overindulgence of alcohol. Give the glass a rest this weekend and try to minimising alcohol consumption for a fresh, bright complexion. Dark circles can also been due to dairy and gluten intolerances, so if symptoms persist it’s best to see your GP.
Oily Skin
Oily skin is caused by several different reasons such as: your menstrual cycle, stress levels or even a blockage in your pores from the makeup you are wearing. The weather is also a huge influence as when it’s hot, your body will generate more oil on your body. Getting the right cleanser that works with your skin is best. We also recommend using clay masks as they help to dry out your skin and make your face feel fresh and smooth. Blotting paper also works, you can buy a packet at your local pharmacy or Priceline.
Cheek Acne
Your dirty phone or hands are the culprit and should be cleaned immediately before touching your face. Anything that touches your face for a long time can transfer clogging or bacteria on your skin. To prevent this nasty issue from reoccurring, simply clean your phone with anti-bacterial wipes daily and also use a hands-free device. Cheek acne can also be caused by consumption of spicy foods. Tomatoes and peppers contain acidic lycopene that can be irritant to some people, throwing off their skin’s pH levels and triggering breakouts.
Dry and dull skin
If your skin is dry and lacking any colour, it is quite possible you are not eating enough omega-3 fatty acids. Eat more meals with fish, chia seeds and walnuts. Dry skin will also occur the most during winter and the cold seasons, so make sure you are topping up on your moisturiser and toners.
