We all need some self-care and pampering from time to time, what better time and place to do it that comfort of your own home during isolation!
Luckily, your humble little pantry is packed full of awesome ingredients that make self-care just that little bit easier.
Here are five beauty DIYs that you can do at home with everyday ingredients:
Essential Ingredients
Coconut oil
White and brown sugar
Coffee
Essential oils
Greek yoghurt
DIY Hand Balm
– 70g beeswax
– 70g shea butter
– 155g coconut oil
– 5 tablespoons sweet almond oil
– 30 drops lavender essential oil
– 10 drops tea tree oil
Simply melt the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil in a bowl over boiling water. Once melted, add in the sweet almond oil. Let cool for 5 minutes and then stir in the lavender essential oil and the tea tree oil. Pour into a glass jar and let it set overnight.
Now next time your hands are feeling a little dry, just massage in a little bit of this balm and say hello to the softest hands you’ve ever had!
How it works: This hand balm is so simple and easy to make but is packed full of goodies for your hands, especially as we head into winter. The beeswax has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties while the coconut oil is well-known as an effective moisturiser. Sweet almond oil provides protection from the elements, while also hydrating.
DIY Lip Scrub
– 2 tablespoons brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons white sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 2 tablespoons coconut oil
Soften the coconut oil in the microwave and then just combine all the ingredients in a small jar. This wonderful little concoction can be stored in the fridge for up to three months.
Next time you have flaky lips, just scoop a little bit out of the jar and rub gently into your lips. Rinse it off and voila, no more dry flaky lips.
How it works: The combination of brown and white sugar acts as gentle but thorough physical exfoliator, and the coconut oil adds moisture back into your dry lips.
DIY Body Scrub
– 1 ½ cups coarse sea salt
– 1 cup dried coffee grounds
– 1 cup coconut oil
– 5-15 drops of the essential oil of your choice
Combine the sea salt and coffee grounds in a large bowl, then add the coconut oil and essential oil. Combine the mixture well. Store in an airtight container.
We spend so much time concerned with the volume of our hair and the pores on our face that we can sometimes forget that the rest of our body needs some loving too. Use this body scrub next time you need a good scrubbing.
How it works: Sea salt cleanses the pores and can help balance oil production while the coffee grounds provide antioxidants and caffeine, which is antioxidant-rich.
DIY Hair Mask
– ½ cup of cinnamon
– ½ cup of coconut oil
Simply combine the two ingredients well in a bowl. Apply the mixture to your scalp and gently massage. Leave the mask on your hair for 30-45 minutes then rinse.
How it works: This two-ingredient hair mask is perfect for promoting hair growth and strengthening the hair since cinnamon is well-known for stimulating blood circulation and the coconut oil hydrates the hair.
