Summer Beauty Tips & Tricks

As the days become longer and the sweet summer months roll on in, who has time for an extensive make-up routine when those ice cold after-work margaritas are calling our name?! If you’re looking to shave a couple extra minutes, or hours, off your beauty routine this summer, follow our tips and tricks for the only beauty essentials you’ll need to continue to slay all season long.

1. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

I get it. You’re laying in the sun all day, its hot, you take a quick dip and suddenly all of your sunscreen is washed off and before you know it, you’re laying back down on your towel completely unaware of the severe sunburn you’ll be cursing in your post-beach shower later that night. No matter if you’re a vigilant re-applier or forgetful and somewhat lazy (sorry mum) about sunscreen like us, it’s no surprise that our skin can become dried out due to the increased exposure to UV we experience in the hotter months. To curb any impending dry skin that may occur as a result, it’s important to keep up on your moisturising routine. We recommend Dermalogica’s Active Moist (RRP $78.76) or the ridiculously affordable Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA by The Ordinary (RRP$9.80).

2. Let your tan sparkle and shine

Whether you prefer your tan natural or from a bottle, during the summer we all like to emit a little glow. A great way to naturally enhance your tan and add a little extra warmth to your skin is to apply a great bronzer. They provide great coverage for makeup on the go and we recommend using a light hand to apply bronzer to your cheekbones and temples to compliment your natural glow.

Recommended products are Benefit’s Hoola Bronzing Powder Range (RRP $52.00) and Maybelline’s New York Master Bronze Palette (RRP $21.95)

3. Beach waves are no longer just a thing you ask your stylist for

Ever hopped into the ocean in the vain hope that when you emerge from the waves your hair will gloriously fall down your back sans ~Ariel, Little Mermaid styles~, and instead spend the next few hours trying to comb out the tangled mess that has become of your hair? If you’re a frequent beach and pool hopper during summer like me, you’re bound to notice your hair seems to be a little drier than usual. Just like our skin, our hair can be stripped of moisture, leading to dry, frail hair and split ends, and one of the largest contributors to this is salt and chlorine water. However, fear not – there are great hair masks designed specifically to moisturise your hair, and are absolute summer essentials. To keep your hair shiny and bouncy in and out of the water, try the following products:

Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask (RRP $47.56) and Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate Hair Mask (RRP $22.00).

4. All in one compact

The sun’s out, the pool is waiting, the drinks are being poured, there’s no time to waste applying product after product when in reality, we’re more than likely to sweat it off within the hour anyways. All-in-one compact palettes are a handy tool for on the go, and make reapplication soooo much simpler, leaving more time for you to soak up the summer sun.

Our recommendations are the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette (RRP $99) and the Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette (RRP $49.00).

5. Stay cleansed girl

Another thing we’re all guilty of (surely it can’t only be me) is after having a big night out, getting home and going straight to bed, completely forgetting to remove our face from the day. However, another important beauty tip during summer, a time when our skin is exposed to a multitude of different irritants, is to remember to cleanse our skin daily. Whilst this may seem like an important tip year round (and it certainly is!) during summer our skin is placed under more stress from the sun, the heat and our sweat glands, so it’s extra important to keep time aside each day to make sure its receiving the TLC it deserves. For basic cleansing with minimal effort required (thank the lordy), we recommend the following cleansers:

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (RRP $13.99) & Tatcha’s The Deep Cleanse ($55.00)
