NY Fashion Week’s Must Have Make up Looks

NY Fashion Week’s Must Have Make up Looks

New York Fashion Week Autumn & Winter has just finished and it has left us with ideas aplenty. What makeup looks will we be rocking as September and October arrive? Will we be going for all-out glam, or will we be more neutral?

The answers might surprise you because the most common look on the runway was clean and minimal. Very few ‘out there’ looks were seen and the main vibe was easy to achieve and subtle. This is great news for those of us who don’t have time to sit in front of the make up mirror recreating masterpieces every morning!

Bear in mind, the Fashion Week calendar runs a little head of us, so whilst we’re still basking in the summer glow, and many overseas countries aren’t even into summer yet, the next season’s hottest trends are coming our way. Consider it a snapshot, but when the season is upon us, you’re free to start rocking the hottest looks before everyone else!

Here are a few of the takeaway points to remember.

The Berry Lip

Seen on several runways, the berry lip was a mainstay of this year’s NY Fashion Week extravaganza. Worn with minimal other cosmetics, the berry lip was the standout piece. However, this isn’t a look which will suit everyone, and it might be that you need to go for a warmer or cooler shade of berry, to suit your specific skin tone. This is entirely do-able however, and the berry lip can easily be worn during the day or night.

Lash Line Colour Strips

Another popular look, seen at a few shows, was a clean, bare face, but with a stripe of colour across the lash line. This was obviously accompanied by lashings of mascara. Many times this stripe was very bright, e.g. white, orange, or blue. Provided you match your chosen colour with your outfit, you’re good to go!

Generally Minimal

The overall vibe was very minimal, and not a lot of makeup in general. Of course, this natural look takes several products and a little time to master – minimal makeup is deceiving. A good quality concealer and a natural shade of foundation, complete with a little lip balm and mascara is all you need, however.

Strong, Yet Undefined Brows

Most models sported strong brows, e.g quite thick, but they were undefined, rather than being razor sharp. Again, this fits in with the natural vibe seen across most shows. A little brow gel is all you need to keep stray brows from sticking out at all angles, and a natural brow pencil to fill in any overplucked gaps (admit it, we all have them!).

Warm Shades

When eyeshadow was worn, it tended to be warm, e.g. oranges and browns. Think about Halloween pumpkin shades and you’re not far away. This was applied to the lid and upper section of the eye socket in a slightly ‘messy’ way, rather than being defined. The whole Autumn and Winter look was about casual looks, rather than being sleek and put together.

Most of the main makeup looks seen on the NY catwalks were quite easy to recreate, however, do not be deceived into thinking that the minimalist, clean faced look requires no time at all! For these looks, it is vital to have a well-matched foundation shade, without being too far away from your natural skin colour.
