Are Lip Fillers On Their Way Out?

Are Lip Fillers On Their Way Out?

If you’ve read the news lately you will know that the make up guru herself, Kylie Jenner, has decided to remove her lip fillers. This means she has allowed them to dissolve and is no longer having injections to give her those plump, full lips we have become so used to seeing. Considering Jenner has built her entire fortune on lip kits, it’s quite the surprise.

Does this mean that lip fillers are on their way out? After all, we tend to follow celebrity trends, and when someone as high profile as Jenner decides she no longer wants fillers in her life, what does that mean for the rest of us?

Never fear, simply because Kylie has decided she’s had enough of plump lips, that doesn’t mean that the future of pouting is over. This is of course a totally personal decision for you to make, but if you have had fillers in the past, and you feel like following the Jenner trend, how exactly do you get rid of your plump lips and go back to your normal dimensions?

Put simply, lip fillers are injectables which are made of hyaluronic acid, and this means that the procedure is indeed very reversible. You can either simply not have your lips re-filled and wait for the effect to disappear naturally, or you can speed things up a little by having another injection, an antidote to the hyaluronic acid, if you will. This is called Hyaluronidase, and this is an enzyme which occurs naturally within the body. Hyaluronidase breaks down the hyaluronic acid and reduces the body of your original filler. In just 24 hours, you can expect your filler to have dissolved completely, and your lips be back to their original size.

Sounds too good to be true?

Well, it’s not that quite that simple, and there are some side effects to be cautious of. Injecting hyaluronidase injections can cause a little swelling or bruising for a few hours at the very least, and it can actually cause you to have less hyaluronic acid naturally occurring within your body after your injections. Because of that, in some cases, your lips may appear even thinner than they did before you had the original lip fillers.

Is that the result you want?

Lip fillers in the first place should be approached with caution, but dissolving them early is also something you should be equally as cautious about. Your original injection will last anywhere between 6-12 months, so if you really want to rid yourself of your pout, a la Kylie Jenner, perhaps it might be a safer option to wait it out? Who knows, by the time your 12 months are up, maybe Kylie herself will have gone back to her fuller lips anyway!
