One of the most common makeup mishaps occurs when the blush brush comes out. If there’s one thing a makeup newbie fears, it’s applying blush and nailing the placement.
Like most of us, I was taught to smile & apply to the apples of the cheeks (the plumpest part of the cheek you achieve while smiling). More often than not, once the smile drops the placement of the blush is way too low and doesn’t quite embody the ‘naturally flushed look’.
However, I recently stumbled across an article by Naomi Watts Makeup Artist, Pati Dubroff.
She suggests to try this beauty hack before you remove your makeup at night, which is a great way to practice new makeup tricks as you can remove and start fresh again the next day.
On one side, smile & apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks.
On the other side, try this: look straight into mirror, feel gently where your Orbital Bone is (the bone just under the eye area) and start applying blush just underneath this bone. Apply to the outer edge and then sweep out on top of cheekbone and then slightly upwards towards the temple.
This application style gives a lifted, more youthful effect (whether you’re smiling or not).
The reason it works is because as we get older, we lose the ‘cushion’ or volume from the cheek area, which creates a lower ‘apple’ as soon as we have stopped smiling. By applying it higher, it gives the appearance of lifted (and more youthful) cheekbones.
I’ve filmed a demonstration if you (like me) need a visual to try and nail this hack:
Get blushing, beauties.
