Fashion Trend Alert: 2021 the Year of Colour

Trend alert: expect bright and bold colours in the world of fashion this year.  After a difficult 2020, it seems designer and runway labels are looking to inject some colour and fun into 2021.  This is one fashion trend we can get around!

Bold, Bright and Beautiful

This year, we’re all desperate to kick over this pandemic and hit the streets to show off our latest fits.

Whether you’re into it or not, bold colours and monochromatic looks have fast become the latest fashion trend for 2021 – and it all started with one of the biggest political events in history.

The inauguration of President Joe Biden saw a new era welcomed in with colourful and vibrant apparel, perfectly complimenting the general feeling of hope and happiness.  The day was ripe with fashion wins, and a common trend of bright, monochromatic outfits caught the attention of designers and bloggers everywhere.

Sophisticated and elegant, Vice President Kamala Harris was captured in vibrant purple from head (or mask) to toe, alongside First Lady Dr Jill Biden in a statement blue. A “major fashion moment”, stunning onlookers and fashion enthusiasts around the world – setting the tone for a loud and colourful year ahead.

All the Colours

The bright colours we are seeing trending in 2021 aren’t a coincidence.  Dr. Dawnn Karen, a psychologist working specifically in the field of fashion, believes the bold hues seen across the runway this year are a sign of our hope and optimism for 2021.  The pale yellows, lavenders, greens, pinks, seen at brands ranging from Christopher John Rogers to Peter Do, “give off an optimism,” says Dr. Karen in an interview with The Zoe Report.  “Essentially these designers coming out with the [Spring/Summer] 2021 looks are basically incorporating mood enhancement dress theory, where bright colors optimize their moods.”

Purple is everywhere in 2021.  From pastel and lavender, to violet and plum, the whole spectrum of purple hues is definitely a fashion trend to look out for.

Don’t forget to get your daily serving of greens!  2021 has already seem lime, pastel, bright and forest greens dominate the runways and Instagram.  A colour symbolising hope and new beginnings, it’s no wonder green is the ‘it’ fashion trend of 2021!

Not so mellow, yellow.  Vibrant, bright and pale yellows have made a comeback in 2021.  From trench coats, to jumpers to simple, monochrome yellow looks, yellow seems to have appeared in a number of designers collections.  Peter Do, Jil Sander, and Ferragamo have all featured yellow in their recent collections, and one just has to scroll through Instagram to know that yellow is absolutely trending this year!

Rounding out the rainbow of shades we’ve seen trending in the fashion world so far this year, are bright oranges and pinks.  Think burnt orange, rust, magenta and vibrant pink.
