Say Hello to Boy de Chanel: The New Line of Makeup Just for Men

Makeup and cosmetic powerhouse Chanel has just released a new line of makeup especially for men. Boy de Chanel was released today and features a range of products designed specifically for males.

The line features three products: an SPF-20 foundation, lip balm and a waterproof eyebrow pencil. The slick, chic, matte-black packaging adds to the masculine feel of the line.

Men are becoming increasingly more present in the beauty scene, and we’re loving every bit of it. Beauty influencers like Manny MUA, Bretman Rock and Michael Finch have paved the way for male makeup gurus to put their work out into the world.

The line has not come without controversy, of course. Some are questioning why makeup needs to be gendered. Male beauty blogger Jake-Jamie has said that he wishes for the day where makeup doesn’t have to be specific to men or women.

“I think it’s amazing that brands like Chanel are bringing makeup for men to the forefront of people’s minds, however I personally prefer a genderless approach to makeup,” the blogger told Cosmopolitan.

“I just wish we lived in a world whereby gender boxes didn’t exist.”

The brand claims that the products are not meant to isolate men and women, or distinguish femininity from masculinity. The intention of the line is to include men in the beauty world with their own, personalised products.

“Chanel draws inspiration from the women’s world to write the vocabulary of a new personal aesthetic for men,” the company said in a press statement. “There is no absolutely feminine or masculine prerequisite: Style alone defines the person we wish to be.”

We say it’s about time that men are included in the beauty-scape. These products look so amazing that we might just have to use them ourselves. You go, Chanel!

The products will be available online from November 2018, and in Chanel boutiques from January 2019.
