This Season’s Hottest Accessory – The Ponytail

This Season’s Hottest Accessory – The Ponytail

As with beauty looks, there are always trends with hairstyles every single season. One of the most common sights seen at the various Fashion Week shows was the simple ponytail. Of course, nothing is ever that simple at Fashion Week, and there were a few tweaks thrown in, to make a real statement. These tweaks are totally wearable for us mere mortals, and the simplicity of the trend is what makes it accessible for all.

So, how should you wear your ponytail this season?

Accessorise

Black ribbons and bows were seen everywhere, and whether you wear your pony high or low, gather it up with a black ribbon, and place an oversized bow over the top if you want extra drama. A simple long-tailed ribbon hanging down was a common sight, and this is probably the easiest way to incorporate the trend into your daily fashion.

Statement Earrings

Another accessory, but one that deserves its own mention, is the statement earring. Wear your pony low to one side and have a statement piece on the opposite ear – cuffs work really well with this style. If you are wearing your pony high, scrape all your hair back and have either large hoops, or statement chandeliers hanging from both. The best middle ground here is hoops for day time, and larger pieces for evenings out.

Rock Your Parting

You have three main options here – either no parting (all brushed backwards), a centre parting, or a deep side parting. If you’re going for a high pony tail, go for all brushed backwards. If you’re going low, at the nape of the neck, go for a centre parting. If you’re going for a side ponytail, low at the nape again, then go for a side parting, but make it deep for added drama.

Texture or Shine?

Models at Jason Wu wore their side ponytails with a shine spray to add reflection, and a side parted pony works well with this kind of mirror shimmer too. If you’re going for a more wavy pony, perhaps a high tie up, then a texturising spray will avoid frizz and add shape to your swinging ponytail.

Now, if you don’t have the length, it’s easy to fake it. Fake ponytails, or even hair extensions, look natural when done the right way. This season’s pony trend does look much better with longer lengths. If however, you don’t want to fake it, and you don’t have the length, go for this season’s other on trend look – the blunt, wavy bob.
