Emma Watson advocates eco fashion

Emma Watson: actress, activist, and ecological fashion supporter. The gorgeous celebrity doesn’t shy away from using her fame to highlight the causes she supports. Emma is an excellent role model for young women, with a prestigious Brown degree for literature, an enviable record in her elegant and avant garde sartorial fashion choices, and a strong voice for women’s rights. Throughout her career, Emma has continuously used her celebrity status to stand up for causes that she not only believes in, but that can benefit our fragile planet.

Emma has been embroiled in the publicity whirlwind for the high profile blockbuster remake of the Beauty and The BeastShe has started a new Instagram account ‘The Press Tour‘ to act as a kind of sartorial visual diary for her adoring fans, as well as to document the eco-friendly brands with whom she collaborated. Emma is clearly enjoying utilising her moment in the spotlight to prove to the world that ecologically friendly fashion doesn’t need to be a compromise.

The exquisite dress pictured was designed by Elie Saab (a favourite brand of Halle Berry) worn by Emma at the film’s premiere in Shanghai. The dress, which was repurposed especially for Emma, cleverly makes use of left-over fabric from a older Elie Saab Haute Couture collection. A glamorous creation of fifteen meters of tulle embroidered with silk thread, sequins, beads and stones, the dress is breathtaking.

Brand consultants Eco Age were brought into the design process to make sure the dress was as sustainable as possible.

“We worked with the team at Elie Saab to help create a dress that told a beautiful story. For this we focused on our GCC Principle of Sustainable Excellence—recycle and re-use,” said Eco Age.

Emma’s ‘The Press Tour’ Instagram details collaborations with international brand Stella McCartney (long adored for her eco is still hot philosophy), as well as Filippa K (which Emma describes as “a Swedish brand committed to four Rs: reducing, repairing, reusing and recycling”), and Boodywear, “a brand that produces basics made with certified organic bamboo, produced using computerised 3D knitting, so no fabric is wasted.”

Fashion designers take note. If you want your pieces showcased by Emma Watson, you need to step up and meet her rigorous and virtuous standards.
