When it comes to wedding dress codes, the list of what’s appropriate can be pretty short and sweet. It subtly shuns the terrible decision to wear white and that person at every wedding that turns up in jeans. With summer nearing, you may have already been asked to attend a wedding taking place during the hottest time of the year. If you, just like many, have left outfit shopping to the last minute, our summer wedding dress code will be your guide to make sure you don’t attract the wrong kind of attention at your next summer wedding.
Playsuits
If you aren’t too keen on wearing dresses, a playsuit might be your perfect Plan B. It’s short, it’s completely breathable, and will keep you cool throughout the day. Plus, it won’t get in your way when you’re ready to dance the night away. Playsuits also have the fantastic ability to give the allusion of long legs and if you’re already lucky enough to have long legs, a playsuit will simply enhance them! We suggest pairing a playsuit with a basic pair of open-toe heels with a matching clutch to complete the look.
Skater dresses
When it comes to skater dresses, it’s safe to say that your options are endless. Skater dresses come in various colours, designs and lengths, making them an option that can cater to anyone’s style. When it comes to summer weddings, try to find a skater dress in a colour, rather than sticking to the easiest choice, black. Black attracts the sun so will make you hotter than you need be, whereas you’ll stand out of the crowd in a bright colour. A skater dress’ short and flowing nature will also keep you cool during the course of the day while giving off a more youthful and playful vibe.
Maxi dresses
Similar, to skater dresses, maxis also exist in various colours, lengths and designs. However, when it comes to summer weddings it’s best to find one that is detailed or has some form of pattern. Rather than wearing a basic maxi dress, use this as an opportunity to be creative and daring to find the most striking maxi there ever was. If the wedding is taking a place at the beach, you now have option to skip the heels and instead settle for a pair of either white, black or brown sandals.
Colours
Colour-wise, summer can mean being bold and bright and a summer wedding is the perfect chance for you to explore the best of summer’s colours. Turquoise, strawberry and melon colours make excellent colour choices during the summertime as they come with all those refreshing and cool vibes. Florals are also another obvious choice for a summer wedding while giving a subtle nod to spring.
Black will always be the new black
If wearing vibrant colours isn’t really your thing, staying in your classic black comfort zone is of course acceptable as black is a colour that will never go out of style. But, if are starting to fall into the rainbow temptation but don’t want to full commit, rather than wearing all black, challenge yourself and accessorise according to a chosen colour. Again, you don’t have to go to extremes, but adding some coloured heels or jewellery can make all the difference.
What to avoid
Other than white, there isn’t much else you should avoid when it comes to summer weddings in general, however, when it comes down to fabrics, you’re going to have be more picky and practical when deciding upon an outfit. Leather and thick fabrics such as wool or cotton should definitely fall under your ‘avoid list’, unless you want to be a sweating, sticky mess during the course of the day. Yeah, didn’t think so.
