Halloween is just around the corner.
Whilst 2020 has been a scary year for us all, Halloween is the one day where we can forget our IRL fears and replace them with fictional spookiness.
As more and more Australians embrace the U.S centric holiday, it has become increasingly difficult to come up with a unique yet relevant costume idea.
We know for a fact there are going to be at least 50 Joe Exotic or Emily in Paris costumes popping up on your social media feeds. There may even well be a more than the acceptable amount of “Coronavirus” costumes this year.
We have compiled a list of our favourite unique costume ideas for 2020 that are sure to make you stand out.
Hand Sanitiser Bottle
If ever there was a year to pull out your hand sanitiser costumes, 2020 is the perfect year. Not only will you be praised for being COVID-19 safe, you can also customise your costume in any way you want. If you’re designing your customer with some home DIY, I recommend adding stuff like your “ingredients list” and what percent alcohol content you have.
Zoom Call Inspired
The rise of Zoom has been one of the biggest surprises of 2020, so why not use your Halloween costume as a tribute? There are so many ways you can take this idea and make it your own. Whether you want to make a cut-out of the Zoom screen or wear a Zoom inspired outfit (business on top, pyjamas on bottom) you got a lot of creative freedom for this idea. This is also perfect for those of us who don’t want to put much effort into their costumes.
TikTok Inspired
If you haven’t spent at least a quarter of quarantine scrolling through TikTok then what have you been doing? With millions of amazing TikToks, dressing up to the content of your favourite one is guaranteed to be original. The hard part might be trying to decide what your favourite Tik Tok is. For me, I’ll be dressing up like this iconic TikTok.
@minorfauna After multiple requests, I bring you my take on the ICONIC ‘Misogyny’ speech by Julia Gillard with a #glambot twist. #bosschallenge #quarantine
Cardi B and Megan The Stallion in WAP
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s WAP is one of the most popular songs of the year, and is perfect inspiration for your Halloween costume this year. If you haven’t seen the video clip for this song, what have you even been doing during quarantine? Cardi and Megan look like goddesses in every single outfit they wear and we know you can too! This is the perfect costume for you and your bestie to match together. For ideas on how you can style this iconic costume check out here.
Australian Bogan Versions of Characters
Halloween might be an U.S holiday, but it doesn’t mean we can’t add our own Aussie twist to it. The best way to do that is by taking infamous fictional characters and modifying them to embody Aussie cultural stereotypes. My favourite of these is an Aussie bogan version of Harry Potter wearing shorts, thongs and sunnies with a VB in one hand and a wand in the other. Or if you would rather skip the character costumes and just go as an Aussie bogan that’s perfectly fine too. For excellent character costumes you can customise follow the link here.
