‘Jello Skin’ is the latest Korean skincare trend to go viral on TikTok. The #jelloskin hashtag now has 14.1 million views on the app and is creeping up rapidly by the day. But what is this latest trend that skincare fanatics are raving about?
“Over the last few years, the power of Korean beauty has taken the world by storm. Korean skincare is driving a number of trends and gaining a lot of popularity across social media”, says WeThrift’s Trend Expert, Nick Drewe.
Sharing this in-depth insight into the latest beauty trend, Nick Drewe commented: “The Korean skincare movement is booming and its beauty trends are taking over the world. In fact, popular Korean beauty brands such as Soon Skincare, Glow Recipe and Peach & Lily appear to be expanding rapidly.
“The quest for a natural healthy glow is a popular trend in Korean beauty. It started with the notorious ‘glass skin’ which now has 337.4 million views on TikTok, followed by ‘mirror skin’ which is when the skin is well-hydrated, smooth and glowy, and almost reflective, like a mirror. Then came along ‘slugging’ which involves slathering the skin in Vaseline or petrolatum, offering great hydration and leaving the skin with a slimy effect.
“Korean beauty has shown time and time again that the best way to achieve your skin goals is by nourishing and moisturising the skin. The latest trend, ‘Jello Skin’ is all about creating a plump and structured skin texture that bounces and feels elastic, similar to the feel of jello (known as jelly in the UK) and rice cakes.
“TikTok skincare influencer @glowwithava is driving the trend through her videos, as the artist guides followers on her ‘Jello Skin’ journey. Ava explains that the trend is more than just using the right products, it becomes a part of your lifestyle.
“Start by making sure your skin is always hydrated and protected from environmental damages, like the sun and pollution. Moving your facial muscles is the most important aspect of the trend. To ensure you achieve the best results, it’s key to incorporate facial massages into your daily routine to create and increase the elasticity of your skin. This can be in the form of an electric massage or just using a Gua Sha, which will help to relieve tension in your face.
“The foods you eat are a crucial part of the skincare trend. You should have a balanced and anti-inflammatory diet. This includes lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and plant-based proteins like beans and nuts.
“The key to achieving Jello Skin is by increasing the amount of collagen in your skin. Collagen is a form of protein, which the body needs to keep the skin looking and feeling young and healthy. The more we increase the collagen levels in our skin, the better it will age.
“There are lots of different products on the market designed to increase collagen production in the body, but the most effective method is by taking supplements and vitamins and by eating rich in vitamin C and amino acids foods, such as oranges, red peppers and kale.
“Exfoliation is a crucial step in the ‘Jello Skin’ care routine. Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells, so by using a light exfoliator you can remove the layer of dead skin and uncover the fresh new cells below. Adding moisture back into the skin is equally important, so invest in good quality products that compliment your skin type”
