The long anticipated launch of Jaclyn Cosmetics has turned sour, or shall we say hairy, after the YouTube sensation has received endless backlash on social media surrounding her nude lipstick collection.
Customers have reportedly received defective products that are either melted, broken or found to have hair fibres and mould festering under their jewelled cap…Gross!
Jaclyn broke her silence to address concerns on her YouTube channel in a video titled “My Lipsticks.” She cited that white fibres found on the lipsticks were due to cotton gloves and towels used during quality control inspections and that the ‘black holes’ were due to oxygen bubbles that were trapped during the cooling process. She also claimed that “80% of complaints were about melting”, to which she suggested that customers should allow the lipstick to “cool down” before using them.
Fans mocked the YouTube star for stating that the lipsticks should “cool down” before use, as they believe it is just one of the many excuses she is using to justify the faulty lipsticks. In addition, she claimed that the “grittiness” and “lumps” found in the lipstick were due to rushed production, causing the formulation to not be completely blended.
Fans were quick to call out the beauty guru saying that she was lying about the contaminated lipsticks and that her conduct during the video was ‘arrogant’ and ‘insensitive’. Denying that there are major issues with her product, the YouTuber continues to infuriate her fans by her lack of transparency and obvious lies.
The ongoing events surrounding the launch, have been extensively documented across Twitter and YouTube, with influencers and bloggers alike venting their complaints with the beauty guru’s lipstick collection.
Not only have customers received damaged goods, there are cases in which some have allegedly contracted viral and bacterial infections from the product. The seriousness of the safety and quality of the lipsticks have been repeatedly ignored by Hill, as she maintains that the products are still safe to use.
Scientist and microbiologist have observed that the white fibres on the product could potentially be a strain of mould, hyphae. When an individual experiences contact with mould, common side effects may include allergic reactions, skin irritation and viral or bacterial infections.
Jaclyn addressed the safety of the lipsticks in her YouTube video, however, she insists that she will refund customers who have emailed their complaints to her team and agreed to send a replacement lipstick free of charge.
This has led concerned customers to petition for the FDA to intervene and issue a recall. So far, the petition has garnered 22,140 of the required 25,000 signatures needed to forward the complaint.
Jaclyn vowed to learn from her mistakes in order to restore Jaclyn Cosmetics’ reputation in the beauty community. All we know is that Jaclyn’s statement has created more controversy and unanswered questions. Stay tuned for more Beauty News.
