With award season now in full swing, many celebrities came out with a bang, sporting some of 2019’s most glamorous looks so far. From the ceremony to the after party, Hollywood’s favourites brought out their best as they walked the red carpet in Los Angeles for the 76th annual Golden Globes this past Monday, 7th January. Now, it’s our turn to decide our top five favourite looks of the night.
LEA MICHELE
For our first look, here’s a glimpse of Australian designer Alex Perry’s dazzling getup worn by Glee star Lea Michele. Going bold this year, Michele stole the show in her tangerine gown during the InStyle after party. Strapless, floor-length and with a sheer cutout complementing her figure, the actress deserved an award of her own for this bright ensemble. Pairing the dress with gold strappy heels by designer Alexandre Birman and minimal jewellery, Michele kept her look simple yet bold.
JULIA ROBERTS
Mixing it up, Julia Roberts shocked us all by killing it with a look featuring both pants and a dress. Wearing a Stella McCartney piece, Roberts truly did both… and it worked. Pairing the soft, one-shouldered dress with a heavier trouser-like pant allowed for a fantastic combination of two (usually) competing looks to seamlessly hybrid into one. The actress paired the pantsuit with Chopard jewels, peeking through her side swept hair. Thank you for this, Roberts.
LADY GAGA
The star in blue! It wouldn’t have been the Golden Globes without Lady Gaga’s iconic red carpet look. Stealing the show and leaving with an award for vocals, the A Star Is Born actress glowed in her sky-blue Valentino number. Many speculated that the look was a tribute to Judy Garland’s periwinkle gown in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born. Gaga complemented the pastel one of a kind dress with a Cinderella-esque light blue up-do and sparkling Tiffany diamonds. What will Gaga do next?
LUCY BOYNTON
From head to toe, actress Lucy Boynton’s 2019 Golden Globes look was one of my absolute favourites. The Bohemian Rhapsody actress served a retro feel on the red carpet with her 70’s inspired metallic floor length dress. Like a cherry on top, Boynton’s unfinished, chic bob and smokey brown eye kept this retro look fresh and modern. From her cuffed sleeve to her tasteful slit, revealing her matching gold heel, Boynton hit gold with this ensemble.
NICOLE KIDMAN
Gracing the awards with her Michael Kors getup, Australian actress Nicole Kidman brought red to the red carpet. Sparkling at every which angle, the Destroyer star looked grand in her figure forming sequin gown. The Michael Kors piece featured a high neck and long sleeve, channeling a tastefully classic look. Kidman kept the party going and the outfit sparkling with her disco ball clutch bag, loose bun and bright lip. Talk about sleek.
The 76th annual Golden Globes was a success, both on the stage and on the red carpet.
