The Art of Looking After Your Newly Bleached Hair

The Art of Looking After Your Newly Bleached Hair

Have you recently taken the leap and decided to go for stunning platinum blonde locks? Well done! A brave move, but one which certainly hits the major fashion points for this season. The thing is? Bleaching your hair is a time investment, because looking after it is high maintenance!

There are many things which can go wrong with bleached hair, whether you went for a full head colour highlights. It completely depends upon the state of your hair to begin with, the colour, and how well the bleaching treatment was actually carried out. Hopefully, you will have gone to a trained hairdresser and they will have done a great job!

So, once you’ve gazed in the mirror and noticed how your new bleached hair seems to change your entire appearance, how do you actually look after it?

There is one thing you need to know about – purple shampoo.

Sometimes known as silver shampoo, purple shampoo is the godsend of newly bleached locks.

What is Purple Shampoo, And Why do I Need it?

When you have your hair bleached, no matter what colour you were before, there is the chance that you could start to notice brassy tones. These are usually yellowy, sometimes orangey flecks, which could even be large sections of your hair in the worst case scenario. This is basically down to the way your hair has absorbed, or not absorbed the bleach, and is common – don’t worry it can be rectified!

If you went to a hairdressing salon, you will probably have had your hair toned after it was bleached, this is to take out the brassiness and to lighten to the desired shade. If you did it yourself, hopefully you remembered to tone it! You can tone your hair yourself at home if you’re not happy with the bleached shade, but do proceed with caution. You will need to mix a developing solution with the toner and leave it on your hair for around 20 minutes (but do check what it says on the packet, as these vary from product to product).

If you don’t like the idea of toning yourself (probably wise), then purple shampoo could be enough to slowly rid your locks of brassiness, and leave you with beautiful platinum shades. All you need to do? Wash your hair in it!

Notes of Caution

Always read the instructions on the product and follow them to the letter. There is a chance that your hair could take on a slightly lilac hue if you leave the shampoo on for too long. The usual time is around one minute, and then you wash it off and hope that it didn’t stain your bathtub!

You might not notice results immediately, but after a few washes (spaced a few days apart), you will notice that the brassiness disappears. The first wash should show you some improvement however, so if your hair only has a slight brassy tone to it, you might get exactly what you need from just one wash.

Bleached hair is certainly a time investment, but it is one which will leave you looking on trend and ultra-fashionable this coming season.
