How To Find The Right Blush For You

We have all been there. Thinking that we look kinda cute with that new blush on, we will confidently sashay outside. Until we check ourselves out in a shop display…Instead of having a healthy glow, you’re confronted either with a feverish look or like you’re auditioning for the Nutcracker.

It’s not easy choosing which subtle shade will fit your undertone, especially when our colouring changes when a new season rolls in. Even a trip to the tanning salon can throw us of by a mile.

Gilbert Soliz, a Marc Jacobs beauty artist, gives us advice on how to evade a minefield of bad decisions and cartoonish mistakes. He tells us that the answer to finding the right blush shade is very close.

On the inside of your lower lip to be precise.

“Pull down the inside of your lip to find a shade that matches closely,” Soliz explains. You need to belooking at the fleshy tone that appears naturally within your body so it looks like it’s coming from within.”

This is the best way of finding your colour match as you’re working with your naturally occurring colour palette.

If standing in Sephora or Mecca whilst holding your lower lip is not your thing however, Soliz mentions that “the colour found in your hands and your décolletage” can be used as well when picking out your next blush.

“In terms of application keep it on the apples of the cheeks,” says Soliz, “I like to work in the shape of an ‘L’ from the corner of the eye, corner of the nose, where those two parts meet.”

While we all love that sun kissed look, applying bronzer with the wrong tools is one of the biggest no-no’s says Soliz.

Bring in that extra depth and warmth with a big fluffy brush that tapers at the top.

Soliz mentions that “It’s like taking all the expertise of a makeup artist and putting it in the palm of your hand. You can do no wrong with that, even if you don’t know what you’re doing, using that is very forgiving, you won’t have any lines.”

The shape of the tapered brush helps in diffusing the colour rather than creating harsh, visible lines.

So there you have it! You have always had the perfect blush, just pout. Kisses!
