Always wanted to try out those amazing IG pastel hair colours, but simply couldn’t ‘cause your hair is too dark?– same. So I went on a crusade to find a look that’s amazing, but still within our dark hair capabilities. Ladies, the answer that won’t fry our hair has finally come!
Rejoice!
Toasted Coconut
Basic balayage, make way for toasted coconut. While it might sound like a delicious topping (and it is, trust me), here I’m referring to a hair colouring technique that made its way onto Instagram.
The hairstyle that’s named after the yummy fruit is perfect for those who want to go lighter, but don’t want to deal with roots showing through and setting your whole look off balance.
Created by the stylist Kayluh Stewart, the hairstyle starts with a dark brunette base to add depth and dimension, after which a lighter shade is strategically painted on to create a soft and natural blonde fade. The look is finished off with an icy-blonde toner to give the overall look an ashy yet Autumnal feel.
The look is perfect for brunettes who have been wanting to go blonde. It is quite low-maintenance as your roots are able to grow at seamlessly due to the darker base.
Cold Brew
If you’re not one to go extreme, because the colours aren’t entirely blended, you could try out the other trending colour technique: cold brew.
The technique starts with warm, cocoa brown and toffee base colours. Next, your choice of colour dimension is added, be it monotone and subtle, or with vavavoom! vanilla colours. You can even customise it to how you like to drink your coffee: Add some subtle caramel highlights for depth, or keep it dark and rich.
Ladies, these hair techniques are our Holy Grail. Get dyeing!
