8 Eyeliner Looks To Get Your Creative Juices Flowing

No longer is there a struggle to execute razor sharp winged liner. It’s also become a time where winged liner isn’t the only impressive thing you can do to your lids. Thanks to Instagram, we’ve learnt about heaps of more fun, fancy and completely mesmerising ways to wear eye makeup.

If you’re used to slicking your eyes in a coat of black liner into a cat eye, check out these super talented and creative ladies changing the rules with winged liner.

  1. Feather Liner

When it comes to making the perfect cat eye, you’re bound to make them uneven, a little bumpy or too long (unless you’re super talented unlike me). 19 year old makeup artist Dahlia C from Romania offers a solution – feather liner. After drawing on your wings, add the smallest amount of pressure as possible and quickly flick the product up into wispy lines above and below the wing. “This is the step where I tried to be really careful so that the lines would be thin and pretty,” C. says. “I barely touched my skin when drawing those little lines on.” The patience and delicateness will be worth it because the tiny lines camouflage any smudges or unevenness you might have accidentally created when making your flicks.

  1. Nude Liner

Nude liner seems like it would defeat the purpose of wearing liner, but artists like Janeen Kurdi have been subbing in concealer for black liner for more neutral flicks. Pair this with a nude lippy and you’re basically killing the no-makeup makeup game, right? Janeen used her concealer to make her wing and used her eye shadow to ombre it into her lid colour.

  1. Underliner

Because your lower lash line deserves some liner too. Follow your lash line as you would for your upper lids and draw your flicks upward. You can also swoop the line inward like Teisha J for a mod look.

  1. Lightning Liner

For those times when your liner just gets too thick and you don’t know how to fix it so you just keep adding more. This bold lighting bolt was posted by member of Kat Von D’s Artistry Collective, Tara Buenrostro.

  1. Stacked Liner

Aussie makeup artist Nicole Tait wanted to see how many wings she could fit onto her lids, so she drew 5! I wish I had the lid space for that, but Nicole rocks it! The wings all interlock to create an optical illusion and it’s super trippy (in a good way!)

  1. Negative Space

Emma Watson’s negative space eyeliner by makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua created the shape that we love without all the darkness. Kara lined her lashline thinly and flicked the wing out and bringing the wing back in, just stopping before the crease without filling it in.

  1. Pom Poms (!!!)

There are no limits on how far instagram artists will take their wings. Check out this pom pom style – actually gluing miniature pom poms onto the eyelid and lower lash line. This creates a colourful and 3D look and we’re kinda loving it?!

  1. Floating Liner

Instead of drawing her wings on at the base of your lashes, British makeup artist Stacey McDonald literally elevated her look. With the help of tape, she lines the eyelids a little higher to make the wings look like they’re floating above the lashes.
