We love beauty tips and tricks even if it means dealing with our multiple skin issues. And as most of you probably know, the best beauty remedies come from our kitchen cabinets. Whether that be honey, turmeric or yoghurt– you know that your skin is going to look and feel flawless with some simple DIYs.

Korean beauty has been owning the beauty landscape lately, and with good reason. Their newest tip involves something we all have sitting in our cupboard, rice! Rice is a staple in every household, and holds multiple beauty benefits. Korean women have been using it to their ageless advantage for centuries. Can you blame them? The humble grain is known to:

  • Soothe sensitive skin and most concerns
  • Helps to treat acne
  • Brightens overall skin tone and reduces dark spots and pigmentation
  • Improves overall complexion
  • Is an anti-aging solution
  • Protects against sun damage

The high content of vitamins B, C and E and some water soluble minerals like inositol and ferulic acid which is present in rice, greatly contributes to skin repair and making this (probably) the most inexpensive beauty treatment you can get your mitts on.

While this secret isn’t exactly a new one, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start making the most of it right now, even if you’re a little late to the rice party.

If you’re looking for an anti-aging rice mask, you’ll need:

  • 1 cup rice

Method

Soak the rice in water for 15 to 30 minutes. In the same water, grind the rice well. Simply strain the paste and save the water in a large glass container. Store the water in a warm place for a few days, to help it ferment. You’ll know it’s good to use when you get a sour smell from the water. Simply dip a cotton ball in this water and apply to your face, along with a nourishing repair cream of your choice. Make sure to do this every night before going to bed. Simply wash your face with cool water and a face wash in the morning.

If you’re looking for an acne treatment, you’ll need:

  • 1 tsp of olive oil
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 to 3 drops of any essential oil
  • 2 tbsp rice powder

Method

Mix all the ingredients to create a smooth paste. Apply the mixture to cleansed skin and leave it for about 15 to 20 minutes. Rise with tepid water and repeat the treatment at least once a week for skin as soft as a baby’s bottom!

For a sun damage treatment, you’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 4 tbsp coconut milk

Method

Mix the rice flour and coconut milk to get a smooth paste. Apply the mixture on the affected area and leave it for about 30 minutes. Simply rise off with tepid water and pat dry. You will notice a visible brightness almost immediately!
