Are Silk Pillowcases Really Beneficial?

Silk pillowcases have become really popular amongst beauty and wellness fanatics and for good reason. With a shed load of benefits, silk pillows are the skin, hair and wellness product you didn’t know you needed. With that said, there are some questions surrounding the impact that silk pillowcases have on the skin, particularly revolving around wrinkle prevention. Here’s all the reasons why you should invest in a silk pillowcase.

Keeps your face healthy

Your face has the most contact with your pillow than any other fabric. So if you want to keep your wrinkles at bay or just not wake up with deep crevices on your face after a deep sleep, silk cases are the way to keep you looking younger for longer. Because silk is, for lack of a better word, silky, it lets your skin slide without gripping or tugging at the skin.

Helps your skin retain moisture

Natural silk pillowcases are less absorbent. Your skin and hair stay moisturised because your pillowcase isn’t absorbing all of the natural oils from your skin. Silk naturally also contains amino acids that are easily absorbed into the skin. Silk amino acids are used in formulating shampoos and conditioners as well as moisturisers and body lotions because they create a protective barrier and preserve moisture. The amino acids bond with the keratin in your skin to help it regenerate as you sleep.

It’s naturally hypoallergenic

Some of silk’s hypoallergenic properties include a natural resistance to dust mites, fungus and mould in addition to many other allergens. So no hidden nasties!

Reduce bed head and split ends

Tired of waking up in the morning with your hair looking wild? Sleeping on silk pillowcases will help keep that bed head under control. The natural properties if silk, including its smooth surface, can help to reduce friction on your hair which often is the cause of split ends. Silk fibres are also similar in structure to your hair. This helps keep the hair smooth as it moves across a silky pillowcase.

Silk keeps you cool

Silk naturally regulates heat, which helps you maintain the correct body temperature. It doesn’t conduct heat, so if you want to keep cool at night on hot days, go with silk. On the flips side, it retains heat during the cold weather. It’s a win win situation.

It really does pay to sleep on silk for the sake of your hair and skin. You can purchase silk pillowcases online or in select bedding stores. My personal fave that I use is from GoTo Skincare, they have conveniently named it face case. You can purchase it from here for $65.

Happy sleeping friends! May the wrinkles disappear and skin be plumped!
