Makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes has recently revealed a life changing tip in one of her masterclasses. Ever struggled choosing a concealer shade? Well, Katie Jane is here to help.
According to Katie Jane, you should match any concealer shade in the space between the apple of your cheeks and your nose. I don’t even know what to call that area because I’ve never considered it a region of my face which needs attention. According to Hughes, this is the key to making concealer look seamless with the rest of your makeup and not like a ghost is haunting your undereyes.
Apparently, Hughes says she stumbled upon this trick accidentally while on set one day and now she swears by it. This area of your face isn’t really susceptible to redness as other areas of your face, “it’s the most neutral-toned part of your face,” she told Allure. By matching the concealer to this area of your face, you are less likely to pick a concealer that is too pink or too light, which can create “a much muddier version of what you already have under your eyes,” she adds.
Hughes says that the shade you pick based on this area will probably seem to dark at first, but never fear, you’ve probably been using a concealer that’s 3 times too light for your skin. Once you blend out your new shade, the concealer will blend out seamlessly and melt into your skin, and ultimately will coordinate with the rest of your face.
Not sure what concealer to use? Some of our favourite concealers are the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer ($44), Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer ($46) and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer ($18.95).
Now go forth, and find a concealer that properly matches you!
