How to Safely Remove False Eyelashes (Without Removing Your Own!)

With the party season upon us, more and more of us are resorting to false eyelashes as a way to give a truly dramatic look to an outfit. When done the right way, falsies look fantastic, and you can opt for either strip lashes, individual lashes, or you can really go all out and have the most dramatic lashes around.

Of course, what goes on, must come off, and this is where the problem can come in!

Just like gel or acrylic nail, if you don’t remove false lashes correctly, you can end up ripping your own lashes off, causing a rather patchy appearance, and in the worst case scenario, a temporary shedding of your lashes. Thankfully, removing false lashes correctly isn’t rocket science, you simply need to know the right technique ahead of time.

Remember, when you apply false lashes, you are using glue, so it’s not only about removing the lashes from your lashline, but it’s also about removing any residual glue too. The best way to remove your lashes, and any glue left behind, is by using a specifically designed eyelash remover. This is a little like eye makeup remover, but is obviously designed to dissolve the glue used to apply your fluttering lashes.

Removing False Lashes Using Eye Lash Remover

First things first, you need to buy the right remover to begin with. It’s not a good idea to go for a bargain basement option here, becuase we are talking about a sensitive area of your face. If you can, go for the brand who also made your lashes, as this will ensure they are removed much more easily. You can find false eyelash remover in most health and beauty stores, and it is relatively inexpensive. The only other thing you need is a few cotton wool pads – not balls. Cotton wool balls will leave behind lint pieces of the cotton wool, which could cause irritation.

First remove your eye makeup, but not your mascara, as this could snag at your lashes

Apply the remover to the cotton wool pad, until it is wet but not soaking

Using a small, circular motion, rub the base of the lashes with the cotton wool pad a few times over, until it is applied evenly

Leave for 30 seconds for the remover to do its job

Hold your eyelid taught and gently remove the lashes using your thumb and forefinger. They should come off very easily in one strip, but if they don’t apply more remover and wait for another 30 seconds. If you feel pain, loosen your grip, as you might have your own lashes between your thumb and forefinger too!

Check your eyelid for any residual glue that may still be there. If there is any, apply a little more remover and wait for another 30 seconds, before gently rubbing over with a clean cotton wool pad.

And voila! All done, and no lashes lost.

If you are planning on using your strip lashes again, use tweezers to remove them, as this will ensure you don’t accidentally pull any individual lashes out during removal.
