The holiday season is nearly upon us, and that means that some of us will be travelling home to greet family and friends. Travel is never fun – the actual destination part is great, but the actual getting from A to B part of the deal? Not so much.
There’s no denying that planes, trains, and automobiles can have a rather drying effect on our skin, hair, and general wellbeing. From air conditioning to tiredness, travel has a habit of a zapping our energy and making us feel generally exhausted. Of course, there are ways you can minimise all of this, and it all comes down to a few handy hints and tips, which you can use whilst you’re en route, and beforehand too.
Let’s explore.
Stock up on Your Sleep
Prior to your journey, you need to be well rested. Depending on how long you’re travelling for, you’re probably still going to be tired to some degree when you arrive, but if you can start off the whole shebang feeling rested, your body and your appearance will feel better than it would have done otherwise. If you’re stressing and panicking that you’ve forgotten something, and it’s affecting your relaxation towards sleep, try leaving a notebook at the side of the bed, so you can write it down and forget about it all until the morning.
Drink Plenty of Water
Whilst you’re travelling it’s important not to become dehydrated. This will only make you feel more sluggish and tired, and it won’t do your overall health any good. Drink plenty of water whilst you’re on the go, and if it means you need to go to the toilet more often, so be it! You’re supposed to get up and exercise whilst travelling anyway, to help prevent DVT, so consider it your exercise!
Moisturise
Just as your body becomes dehydrated, so does your skin. Pack a small moisturiser in your hand luggage, and mid-journey apply some liberally. This will give your skin a little hyration when it needs it the most. Repeat again when you arrive, to wake yourself and your appearance up a little.
Lipbalm is Your Friend
Pack a lipbalm in your hand luggage too, as your lips will dry out as much as the rest of your skin. Air conditioning plays havoc with lips, causing dry patches and sometimes even cold sores, so a lip balm will help to moisturise and prevent problems.
Dry Shampoo is Amazing!
No matter whether you wash your hair before you travel or not, when you arrive, you can guarantee you will feel like your hair needs washing again. To counteract this, a spritz of dry shampoo should do the trick, so always carry a small travel sized bottle in your hand luggage.
Travel can play a very negative type of havoc with your appearance, but if you are forewarned, you can defeat it! This holiday season, pack these handy essentials into your hand luggage, and you’ll have your beauty needs covered on the go.
