Top 5 tips for spring cleaning

Spring is in full swing. It’s warmer, days are getting longer, there is more sun and everyone seems to be in a better mood.

This is also a good time to do a proper spring cleaning and start fresh. And not only does the house need some refreshments, you deserve to embrace the summer ready.

What to do and where to start?

  1. Get rid of the clothes you are not really wearing

When was the last time you actually wore those black pants? Are they still trendy, do they fit you? Donate, sell or give away all the clothes that you haven’t been wearing for a while.  That way, you’ll make room for new stuff, reorganize the drawers and hangers and leave only the clothes you are actually wearing. Also, while going through your stuff, you may also realize that you don’t actually like some clothes any more. Taste changes, our bodies change, our colour preferences change. Adapt and move on.

  1. Don’t forget the shoes

Unless you are Carry Bradshaw and always have the newest models available, you may need to face the reality and check how many pairs still look good. Can you still wear your favourite pair from last spring or they seem a bit worn out? Is the colour still trendy? Will they match your outfits this season? If they will – great news, you saved yourself a lot of money. If you find them worn out beyond recognition, part with them peacefully. We know it’s never easy to say good-bye to your favourite pair, but just imagine all the gorgeous ones waiting for you in a store

  1. Clean and clean well

Doing huge, detailed house cleaning is never fun. It can take days to properly do everything and have all the rooms sparking clean. And all those windows can be a hassle. Besides the basic like dusting, vacuuming and floor polishing, don’t forget the biggest collectors of dust – carpets and curtains. Have them professionally cleaned, and do the same for furniture. Once you do all the heavy work, the house will feel like brand new. Then enjoy the hot weather knowing you’ve got rid of dirt and dust which may have been there for months.

  1. Books, jewellery and all those little things

Sometimes the little things in our houses take so much space. How can you sort all that jewellery, souvenirs, gadgets and heaps of cute stuff which somehow end up just collecting dust? Put them in boxes and place them somewhere suitable. Give away the novels you are not reading any more or swap for new authors with some of your friends. Do the same with jewellery like you did for clothes – consider when was the last time you actually wore them and do you even like it anymore?

  1. It’s your turn now

After the house is sparkling clean, it is your turn to shine. Make a list of the things you’d like to have done. Does your hair need a new style or a lighter colour? Spring and summer are the times when good pedicure is a must – don’t forget your toes and nails. Add some waxing and a good facial, and there is a one good pampering weekend planned out for you.

Now both you and your house are ready for the summer.
