Regardless of where you live, you will inevitably be faced with one of the scourges of style and fashion: rain. When it’s raining it’s often difficult to look fashionable and chic, whilst also staying warm and dry. However, there are some things that can be done to beat the rain and look good while doing it.
Have a good selection of raincoats
Often the word raincoat brings images of a bright yellow monstrosity that has been forced on a young child by their mother. However raincoats are far more versatile and stylish than many believe that they are.
You can find a raincoat that will match pretty much any style situation, from a simple trip to the shops to an important day at work. There are a multitude of raincoats to choose from, with Superdry and Rains Australia both carrying a large selection of raincoats in various colours and styles.
Your umbrella is important
While an umbrella isn’t seen as something important when planning an outfit, but it can be an important accessory on rainy days. Umbrellas come in many shapes and sizes and are available in with a variety of colours and patterns.
The important thing to remember when choosing an umbrella is that you don’t need to be afraid. A bright, bold colour can often be the perfect way to brighten up a gloomy day, and make a fashion statement.
Gumboots are your friend
High heels and sandals may be the go to when it comes to footwear, but when it’s raining, all they will lead to is very wet feet. Gumboots are a perfect replacement, as they’re a great way to keep feet warm, dry and stylish.
Regular boots are also an option, however be sure that they are sturdy and are made of a waterproof material. The last thing you want is to be walking around in your favourite pair of water soaked boots.
Protect your hair and makeup
There is a lot that can be done to your outfit to make it rain proof, but so often your hair and makeup are not so well prepared. This usually ends with very frizzy hair and streaked makeup.
To stop this, keeping your hair in a bun or ponytail will usually stop the frizz. There are also a number of anti-frizz shampoos for more wild frizz. L’Oreal Paris sell an excellent anti-frizz shampoo, which is also fairly inexpensive.
Waterproof makeup and staying dry are the only real ways to keep makeup from streaking. Also neutral tones are usually better for rainy days just in case your makeup does get wet.
