Beauty trends on the Oscars red carpet

It was true old-school Hollywood glam on the 2017 Oscar’s red carpet, with many of your favourite celebrities rocking clean, luminous makeup. It seems it’s true that this year’s beauty trends are heading towards natural and understated look, rather than the bold looks we saw on red carpets last year.

Whilst we’re loving Hailee Steinfeld’s and Olivia Culpo’s smokier look, this year’s red carpet was dominated by simple eye makeup, strong highlighter, sweeping lashes and a bold lip.

Oscar hopeful Nicole Kidman donned a standout lip, which was matched by other Hollywood hit-makers including Brie Larson, Emma Roberts and Kirsten Dunst. We’re especially loving this shade on Brie.

It would also seem that Emma Stone won over more than audiences, with the La La Land star winning over red carpet critics with her burnt orange Nars Audacious Lipstick in Mona.

These more subdued looks set off the amazing gowns on show at the night of nights. A perfect example is Hidden Figures star, Janelle Monae, who stunned in an Elie Saab Couture gown and Jennifer Behr crown.

Charlize Theron was amongst actresses who selected a more natural makeup look, with a nude lip and subtle eyeshadow that complimented her metallic Dior gown. The actress looked stunning as usual and channelled a vintage aesthetic with her 60s-inspire ponytail.

Though there weren’t too many interesting fashion faux pas statements, Emma Roberts definitely made an impact with her autumn hued hair colour, flawless makeup, and her Armani gown similar to the Valentino worn by her aunt Julia Roberts to the 2001 Oscars.
