Not since Sex and the City and Gossip Girl left our screens have we had such a fashion centric show. If you haven’t seen Scream Queens yet, bookmark this page, go binge watch the whole first season (it’s out on DVD now) and then come back. Not only is the show whip smart but it is absolutely filled to the brim with some fierce AF looks.
It’s Mean Girls meets Friday the 13th. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, it’s edge-of-your-seat scary and everyone is wearing Chanel. What other reasons do you need? – Emma Roberts
The costume designer Lou Eyrich is best known for her work on Glee and American Horror Story – she’s won Emmy’s for both – has discussed her inspiration for the costumes on Scream Queens. She cited macarons as a style influence for the Chanel’s and utilised street style by mixing high end designers (Moschino, Fendi, Gucci and Chanel, obvs) with pieces from Top Shop and Zara. These are our favourite looks from Season 1!
Pastel perfect Chanels #2, #3 and #5
This was one of the first looks of this show that made us sit up and pay attention. Without being too “matchy” each Chanel’s outfit screams that she’s part of a clique. Hey Lou Eyrich, we get that macaron reference now.
Chanel’s cream feather outfit
A typical Chanel outfit; Pearls: check. Feathers: check. Resting bitch face: check, check check. If only this was appropriate for the office. Also as a side note, Chanel’s closet with it’s bag wall is literally what our dreams are made of.
Chanel #3’s tweed co-ord (plus earmuffs of course)
Hot on the heels of the original Chanel, Chanel #3 stunned us with her twist on the classic tweed with pearls. Her ear muffs are firmly in place – real talk, she has the most enviable collection of ear muffs – and her accessorising is on point. Just check that footwear. If you haven’t seen Scream Queens yet, we won’t spoil the surprise as to why Chanel #3 always wears ear muffs, but we promise it’s a good ‘un.
Chanel’s funeral wear
The girl knows how to work a funeral, that’s for sure. While her obituary might have been slightly inappropriate “We’re gathered here today because a backstabbing little bitch got exactly what was coming to her”, her outfit certainly wasn’t. Black feathered jacket, fingerless gloves, birdcage head piece. It almost makes us wish we had more funerals to attend.
Chanel #5’s sequin skirt
Chanel #5 is certainly a fan of the statement skirt and tee, and this skirt is certainly a corker! Despite always being blamed for everything, she always does it in style!
Chanel’s school wear
This outfit is literally everything. Pink faux-fur jacket, cream pussy bow blouse, dogtooth monochrome skirt and a tiny ridiculous bag, Chanel know’s what works for her. I wish I could say I looked this stylish while at university.
Chanel #2 metallic crop
Though Chanel #2’s style takes a lot of cues from Ariana Grande’s style, we’re not complaining. Futuristic top, choker necklace, high pony, the girl’s style is undeniable. Lou Eyrich has said that she was able to make Chanel #2’s style a bit sassier than the other Chanel’s because of her dark hair and that sass comes through in her style and refusal to walk in a diamond formation.
Gigi’s 90’s look
Ahhh Gigi, forever stuck in the 90’s. All of her outfits are so bad they’re good. A bit of floral print here, a brooch or two there, and a whole lot of coloured leather. Gigi is actually making us happy the 90’s are having a revival.
Zayday’s head wear
Zayday is sassy, tough and uncompromising. Her style is the most street wise of all the Kappa’s and makes frequent reference to her O-Town upbringing. She is the queen of smart, fashion forward pieces, and we love her for her collection of hats, turbans and bandannas. As well as being the future POTUS, Zayday know’s how to hide a bad hair day, if she ever had one.
Grace’s quirky style
Just because Grace doesn’t run around in heels and perfectly coiffed hair, it doesn’t mean that she’s not just as stylish as the rest of Kappa Kappa Tau. We love the quirky details in each of her outfits (see the pineapples on her collar above) and her seemingly endless supply of page boy hats.
Honorable mentions
The fraternity chic worn by Chad and Boon actually reminds us a lot of the first season of the OC. Bright colours, polo shirts, sweater vests, what a way to showcase their muscles.
Dean Munsch conveys authority with her all black power suits. Despite being much older than most of the cast, the looks are tailored and work well with her character’s duplicitous personality.
Don’t forget season 1 of the killer comedy-horror, Scream Queens is out on DVD August 24. Grab it now to catch up before season 2 begins next month.
