The Olympics have transformed into a runway as competing countries showcase their stylish and iconic uniforms for the 2016 Rio games. The competition for best dressed is fierce with some of the world’s top fashion designers creating works of art for the athletes to wear.
USA
The American Opening Ceremony uniforms were designed by none other than Ralph Lauren. While the blazers make them look super chic, we’re not sure how we feel about the boat/bowling shoes.
Canada
The Canadian team will be looking like they walked straight out of an ASOS photoshoot with their very on trend outfits. Twin brother designers, DSquared2, hit the nail on the head by pairing these long jumpers with joggers and of course incorporating the very iconic maple leaf.
Sweden
H&M pulled through in paying homage to their home country by designing these yellow and blue uniforms citing their flag colour scheme. Bonus points for Team Sweden whose uniforms were also largely created with sustainably-produced recyclable fabrics.
Cuba
Recognise that guy second from the right? Oh that’s just Christian Louboutin casually posing with some of the Cuban Olympics team mates. He designed their uniforms in collaboration with French E-concept store Sporty Henri. The timeless suits are a perfect match for the red soles the Cubans will be blessing the grounds with.
Great Britain
Adidas has teamed up with Stella McCartney to bring the UK Olympics team these sporty blue, white and red ensembles. The graphic patterns showcase the coat of arms perfectly and McCartney even included a large GB (Great Britain) printed on the fabric. And let’s just take a minute to appreciate Tom Daley’s abs!
France
It was a basically a given that Lacoste would design the French Olympic team’s uniforms. The iconic polo shirts were incorporated into the simple yet stylish design. The recognisable crocodile emblem will be stitched in red, white and blue on the garments.
Italy
When we heard Giorgio Armani was designing Team Italy’s uniforms we patiently waited to see what this fashion mastermind would have to show us. We love the monochromatic simplicity but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t expecting more. However, we would never dare question Mr. Armani’s choices and the Italian team do look very sophisticated.
South Korea
These may look like regular uniforms but what’s different about Team South Korea’s uniforms is that they are infused with mosquito repellent chemicals designed to keep them safe from the Zika virus.
Australia
You might feel like you’ve taken a walk down memory lane to the roaring 20s and that’s because this year the Team Australia uniforms pay homage to the 1924 Olympics. Get ready to spot your fave Aussie athletes in Sportscraft green and gold pinstriped suits and scarves.
The blazer is lined with fabric containing the names of past medallists.
