How To Prevent Your Makeup Sliding Off In Summer

As Summer approaches, it’s time to start thinking about your makeup routine to last through the Australian humidity and heat. Here are some of my favourite tips to abide by in order to keep my face intact.

Find a primer that works for you and your specific skin type.

I have combination/oily skin, and have fallen in love with the overly expensive Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15. Although this little glass bottle is expensive, it is the perfect canvas for my makeup. All you need is a pea size amount and it smoothes over all your pores and imperfections. It gives my skin a little glow without looking oily, and most importantly, keeps my oily skin at bay throughout the day. A perfect 5/5 for this product.

Find a foundation application that holds your makeup in place.

I find that my makeup truly slips and slides in the summer. After smoothing my primer on, I pat a thin layer of my favourite Face of Australia Loose Translucent Powder using my beauty blender. I’ve discovered that setting my primer with a translucent powder boosts coverage of my foundation, but adds a grippy layer so it’s longer lasting. Then I’ll apply a small amount of my favourite Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation over the top using my Real Techniques Stippling Brush, and buffing away the harsh lines with my Beauty Blender Original.

Layer creams with powders

I like to layer my blush and highlight to enhance the colour but also to keep my face intact throughout the day. For highlight, I like to start with the Mecca Enlightened Lit From Within Illuminating Balm, layering on top of that with the Mecca Lit From Within Powder. The gorgeous champagne colour enhances my tan and really pops on my cheekbones. I also like to layer blush, using the Nars Multiple in the shade Portofino (a bright shimmering coral) first, followed by Clinique’s Cheek Pop in the shade Melon.

Use blotting powders on the run

If you’re used to using blotting powders and find yourself looking cakey throughout the day, take a chance on blotting papers. I love the Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Blotting Paper. The papers come in a small dispenser which holds a small mirror to see what you’re doing, and you can purchase refills to keep yourself stocked up.

Swap your classic eye faves for waterproof alternatives

As someone who has very oily eyelids (attractive, I know) I find myself needing to use heavy duty eye products on a daily basis. However, in the Summer, it’s super important to use products that will last through the humidity. I like to use a waterproof shadow in a pencil/eyeliner form like the Make Up Forever Aqua Matic Shadow in the shade S-60 Satiny Warm Brown. I just apply the product directly onto my eye and blend it out with an eye blender brush for a simple wash of colour. Then I like to apply tubing mascara, which doesn’t smudge and comes off with water (infinitely better than waterproof mascaras.) I’m loving the Poni Cosmetics White Knight Mascara which also has 3 powerful growth ingredients which is necessary for my stumpy lashes.

Those are my favourite tips I like to employ when the weather starts heating up. What are your favourite makeup bits to use in this Australian heat?
