Sadly for many, matte lips are on their way out. But before you remove that NYX Liquid Lingerie in Exotic, (great dupe for a Kylie-esque 90’s brown BTW), keep in mind that adding a sheer gloss over the top could add just enough sheen to revamp your look (even your old faithful Blistex Balm will do the trick!) With this beauty hack in mind, you’re able to recycle all of your fave shades and alter them to be totally on trend– not to mention looking youthful and fresh!
Let’s just start with the fact that I am Team Gloss. Not by choice, but more so because I haven’t been blessed with the ability to pull off a matte lip– visually, comfortably or spiritually.
I too, was swept up in the Kylie Cosmetics LipKit trend and placed my order for the Candy K and Koko K (in line behind every other makeup fanatic worldwide). I paid the shipping, they arrived, I applied and THEN the mirror showed me things I had never seen.
Every line was enhanced, every crease magnified. I saw dry patches and I saw ‘aged’ lips. I removed (quick tip: try removing long lasting or matte lip colours with an oil, you will never look back!) and put them in the ‘makeup misses’ pile. Now, every so often (or every time she launches a new collection), I get the painful memory of dehydrated, cracked lips, so you can imagine my delight when L’oreal announced their new Colour Rich Shine Addiction Lipsticks!
The Lipsticks come in sixteen beautiful shades, with one to suit just about every skin tone. From reds, pinks and nudes, to shimmering purple– this range has ticked all boxes. The products are also laced with a blend of French Rose hip and Coconut Oil for that easy to glide vibe. They feel totally weightless but the colours pack a punch!
The Lipsticks are comfortable to wear, super easy to apply and as pigmented as they come– I just knew I was onto something good. (They say “when you know, you know”, right?)
My top picks from L’oreal’s new collection are the nudes (even though I’m fifty shades of beige, these stunning blends are anything but bland). These shades are so stunning– simply add a statement cat-eye or a bronzey shade through your crease and you’re good to go (think Jennifer Lopez circa 2004).
These babies retail for $23.95, but I always wait until they are on sale so I can pick up two shades!
My current favourite is #658. Swatch in store and you can thank me later.
