Over the past few months the Açaí Bowl, a Brazilian dish made from frozen açaí palm fruit, has earned its place as a go-to health food for beauty gurus world wide.
With so many recipes floating about Instagram and Youtube, we’ve scoured through all the food bloggers, celebrity chefs, and healthy eating columnists to find you the best Açaí Bowl recipe that’s out there.
But first off, what is Açaí?
Açaí (pronounced a-sah-ee) comes in the form of little purple berries that grow on thinly leaved palm trees native to Brazil and other countries in South America.
The berries possess a number of beneficial health properties; they are rich with antioxidants, amino acids, fibre, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and have been known to improve cholesterol levels.
The fruit can be found in pureed and frozen form in individual packets. Be careful of brands that have added sugar and other artificial sweeteners. The natural sweetness of the other fruit you add will balance the bitterness of the açaí perfectly — no added sugar necessary!
