Cosmetic Surgery Addicted?

Cosmetic Surgery Addicted?

How many cosmetic surgery attempts have you had so far? Maybe it’s zero, maybe it’s ten, but there is a worrying trend between the pros of cosmetic surgery, and the major boost in confidence that it gives, and the worry of becoming addicted.

You might wonder how anyone could become addicted to going under the surgeon’s knife, all that blood, gore, and pain during the aftercare stage, but that’s not the part which people become hooked on. Oh no, it’s the aftermath results. The problem is, much like most things in life, one hit is rarely enough. Much wants more. With lip fillers comes a rhinoplasty, with one breast augmentation comes another. Cosmetic surgery gives those who are within its grasps the biggest hit of adrenaline on Earth, and its a costly habit to have.

Firstly, we have the actual monetary cost. Cosmetic surgery isn’t cheap. Then we have the cost of your health. How many cosmetic surgery procedures go wrong? For those who don’t research their clinic properly, there is a very high risk of a botch job, and with the rise of medical tourism, e.g. those who go on holiday to various locations around the world for a spot of cosmetic surgery in the sun, the whole thing becomes totally unregulated.

So, it makes you wonder, why do people become cosmetic surgery addicted?

The endless search for beauty and youth.

That’s what it really comes down to. There is also the personality which can easily become addicted perfectionism. You might not have seen the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother, or the USA TV show, Botched, but there has been the same guy on both shows, who is 100% addicted to cosmetic surgery. He calls himself the  ‘Human Ken Doll’, but to his mother, he goes by Rodrigo. Rodrigo has spent an estimated AUS$900,000 on plastic surgery, and he still isn’t done. Rodrigo also has a rather nasty MRSA infection eating away at the tip of his nose, after countless rhinoplasties within a too short space of time.

That’s a warning right there ladies and gentlemen.

We have the guy who has had so many lip fillers that he can’t close his lips anymore, the girl who has had so many breast augmentations that she can’t remember the first one, and for every single success story, there are countless failures and disasters.

So, what are the chances of becoming addicted to cosmetic surgery? Much of it depends upon your personality. Do you have an addictive personality? If so, tread very carefully before deciding to opt for even one surgery. Body modification is an easy thing to become addicted to, and if you’ve found yourself wanting more tattoos, more piercings, you could also be within that worrying bracket with the potential for surgery addiction. When you fix one problem, you will simply go on to highlight another. There is no end to it, there is no final point.

The best course of action? Truly – to love the skin and body you’re in. No addiction needed.
