How To: Be A Total Girl Boss

We’re all privileged enough to have confident women in our lives. The type of women who can command any room they walk into and subsequently leave a mark of inspiration and positivity on whoever they speak to.

The question is: how can you be what you see?

What makes these women special enough to stand out? What is that special ‘something’? With a plethora of empowering women flooding the industry, it’s important for the next generation of our female leaders to take note of these characteristics to keep the inspiration wheel turning. Following in the footsteps of strong female leaders has the potential to launch an initiative, ensuring girls constantly have access to stimulating female role models.

Can we identify and emulate these characteristics? We definitely can.

It’s important to seek and receive support. Everyone is vulnerable and having a personal support network including family and friends who you can confide in is really important. In terms of work, having an incredible and supportive team culture makes a positive difference on how you work and how well you manage stress.

Be smart & never give up. Only foolish people expect to have everything they want all at once. 80% of Australian small businesses fail within the first two years– mostly because they go too hard, too fast. Take your time and enjoy the ride. Learn. Accept that success takes time, diligence (and extremely long hours).

Internal motivation is key. If you’re not pushing yourself, who will? Be confident and back yourself. Create something from scratch, accept feedback from your peers and more importantly, total strangers. Be willing to grow and nothing will be able to stop you. As cliche as it may sound, it is imperative to believe in yourself and everything you can be. Think of what makes YOU happy and run with it. Success forming out of that is pretty amazing in itself.

Do everything you do with authenticity and passion. Don’t be afraid of failure, but if you do make a mistake, make it fast and get back up quickly. At the end of the day, success is creative freedom– freedom to create ideas, execute and share them with your audience. Have a strong voice and a clear goal; good things come to those who work their ass off. Remain grounded, focused and humble and you will succeed.

JK Rowling once said, It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.

Embrace and encourage the amazing women we’re surrounded by, they’re the future.
