Sass & Bide are returning to Fashion Week

Sass & Bide are returning to Australian shores for the first time in 14 years. Despite being founded in Australia, the brand hasn’t had a collection showing in Australia since its 2003 in Sydney. Sass & Bide will feature at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia to showcase their 2018 collection.

The resort collection will be debuted at Sydney’s Carriageworks, and Sass & Bide couldn’t be more excited that they’re returning home. Sass & Bide’s head designer, Sophia Berman, was thrilled to be returning to the brand’s roots when questioned by Vogue about their Aussie return.

“MBFWA is now a global destination of international standard for resort, which at Sass & Bide is one of our favourite seasons, so it feels right to show here now and support Australian fashion,” said Berman. “We now have over 45 locations in Australia and are at essence an Australian brand, based in Sydney, with an international outlook.”

Sass & Bide have been an iconic Australian fashion label since 1999. Sass & Bide have dedicated almost two decades to bringing fashion “to the strong, the obscure and the beautiful” women who shop with them. It is with this in mind that they’re bringing this concept into their Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week debut.

“We’ve been working on new innovative techniques and ideas while staying true to the brand aesthetic. Art and culture inspire us always, and this season it is especially the architecture of Antonio Gaudi, with its mesmerizing mixture of decoration and modernist design, which was our starting point,” said Sophia Berman.
For those unfamiliar with the particular style that Sass & Bide creates and produces, the brand’s website explains their chic fashion succinctly.

“Each collection, covering ready-to-wear fashion, denim, leather, accoutrement and exclusive gallery pieces is defined by our dedication to the strong, the obscure and the beautiful, with an emphasis on ornate embellishments, graphic prints and innovative cuts,” a statement on the website reads.

With this in mind, it’s safe to say that graphic prints and interesting cuts will be featuring in the 2018 collection. Sass & Bide also have an interest in producing ethical fashion, so sustainable style is likely to dominate the runway.

Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Australia starts on the 14th of May and will run until the 20th. Get excited for new collections and fashion to grace our Australian shores!
