The Changing Face of Aussie Men

How is male Cosmetic Surgery helping our Aussie men become more successful? Taylor Clinic took a deep look into this topic and is here to give you all the goss!

Did you know that people judge your character traits such as trustworthiness and competence on your facial features? Interestingly, studies have found that men with a narrow face appear less competent, while men with upturned mouths and eyebrows are considered more trustworthy.

It may not sound logical, but a newly published series of experiments by cognitive neuroscientists at New York University reveal that these judgements are actually ‘sub-conscious’ perceptions that are virtually impossible to change.

Previous studies have also shown that certain facial features are perceived as being more ‘masculine’ than others. For example, A study published in the journal ‘Nature Communications’ found that men with high levels of testosterone tend to have better immune systems and more masculine facial features such as a strong jawline. Since a strong immune system and high testosterone levels are credited with attracting the opposite sex a strong jawline is seen as very attractive.

It’s no wonder casting director, Zack Snyder, who casted Ben Affleck as Batman in the new movie, ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ commented that one of the reasons he chose him for the role was that ‘He had the chin for it.’

While you can’t change people’s perceptions, one thing you can change is the message you send out to others with your image. Something as simple as a facial feature can mean the difference between someone trusting your professional abilities or being a hit with the ladies. If you’ve been having trouble reaching your sales targets recently, or if you’ve found your love life lacking, it could be time to address this with some simple procedures that’ll give you your mojo back.

The Treatments that are Helping Aussie Men to Put their Best Face Forward
A recent interview with , Dr. Tobias Pincock, facial plastic surgeon and Vice President of the Australasian Society of facial Plastic Surgery noted that there is a growing demand from older professional men in their 50’s for face and eyelid lifts to capture a more youthful appearance in a business environment that is becoming more and more competitive.

However, if you’re not prepared to go under the knife just yet, you could try Botox and anti-wrinkle injections. Taylor Clinic’s Dr Suzie Bekir says that anti-wrinkle injections can reduce frown lines and wrinkles and make one appear less grumpy or angry. “Men are now presenting more and more at our clinic, especially professionals as they realise that looking good is not only important for themselves and their partners, but also to be presentable and competitive in the workplace. It’s not that they come in wanting to look younger, but more that they are tired of being told they look angry, tired or annoyed.”

‘The Luck of the Jaw’ – It’s A Thing
Since the release of the new Batman Vs. Superman movie, in which Ben Affleck’s chin has been receiving almost as much attention as the film itself, chins and jaws have become big news.

The “Luck of the Jaw” was a concept coined by Double Bay’s Cosmetic Registered Nurse, Toby Hannett, to describe the phenomenon that men with masculine jaws are more attractive to women and often have more success in business. If your jaw isn’t bringing in much luck, there are a few sneaky little tricks that can change that.

Traditionally, men have relied on chin implants to get the job done. Dr Tobias Pincock, facial plastic surgeon says, “Chin implants are the surgical answer to a tailored jaw line, but there are non-surgical options as well which have proven even more popular.”

  • Dermal fillers can be used at the angle of the jaw, ‘pre jowl sulcus’ and chin to give a stronger jaw projection, which enhances the overall masculine look of the face.
  • Ultherapy ultrasonic lifts the neck and chin to give you gravity-defying jowls.
  • Anti-wrinkle injections to assist with the chin projection or lift the neck with a Nefertiti lift
  • Ablative laser to the resurface the skin on the chin and remove large pores, which can be signs of ageing
  • The newest secret weapon for 2016 is fast becoming the most popular Double Chin Buster for under $1000. CoolSculpting is a technique used to freeze away fat, and can freeze away your double chin in just 1 hour.
